    Hey All,

    I'm trying to find out if a blanket that I own is what I think it is and need some help/advice; It's a cotton/flannel/wool(?) blanket with a Greek key that incorporates a swastika motif; I placed the item up on Ebay only to discover that they won't post items with swastikas(!);

    I want this blanket to go to a collector of WWII memorabilia for a fair price if it is, indeed, a WWII relic; I would invite anyone who might have knowledge about this item to msg me;

    Thanks!

    Steve,

    The swastika has had widespread usage in art and design for many centuries before the Nazi's claimed the symbol for themselves. This item could just as easily have Hindu, Buddhist, american indian or an asian background. I'm certainly no expert but the application of the design seems too stylistic to have been a wartime German item.

    Steve,

    Hello and welcome to the forum.

    I have to agree with Canuck, it has not got that wartime austere look about it.

    I like swastika spotting, it makes me smile.
    There's a bank in town that has a similar motif in it's Victorian floors, and I bought some spring roll wrappers this week with a trademark among the Chinese writing that looks positively third Reich.

    Seriously TM, I wouldn't assume that anything with a swastika is necessarily from the Nazi period, they crop up all over the place, quite often as purely accidental results of geometric patterns. Doesn't certainly mean yours isn't, but quite likely not.

    Actually this type of repeated pattern with the swastika enclosed is quite common in Greek or Greek-inspired friezes.
