This is a thing of beauty. I came across it on facebook and immediately joined the Fort bij Sijkerboor group where it was posted. The fort is in the Amsterdam defence line just south of Alkmaar where I live. The group is ‘80’s Dutch heavy rock band Exises who used to practice in the fort and did some publicity shots while there. It got me thinking – any more WWII/rock band related pictures or connections?
Might be some food for thought on this thread from longlongago. Postwar songs with WW2 references. First thing that bubbles up lately is this old thing, (though my brother intermittently sends me ridiculous 'Panzerschlacht' sort of noise CDs. Shall have a dig.)
eg. Subtle, isn't it! And the modern vehicles with that iconography definitely don't imply anything, nosiree. Can't recall what it sounds like. Usually of the white noise school.
Chislehurst caves used to host gigs until a local killjoy put an end to it on H&S grounds. Some big names played there, The Who being one. The caves were used as air raid shelters during the war.
Siouxsie & that dead junkie bloke setting out to shock: And, of course, Laibach, doing what they do. Leaving one feeling slightly uneasy & uncertain as to what just happened... which is probably the point. Banned & banned, & banned again, accused of extreme left & extreme right, but now a culture (Kultur?..) all of their own. https://www.laibach.org/post/laibach-warszawa-ep/
Almost every song recorded by Sabaton is about some historic battle or another--just search for the name on YouTube. If I recall, there's a whole album about the Great War. They're fun without being truly great. The one on Rorke's Drift is pretty good, however.
