WW2 women of Waterloo Bridge recognised for the first time

    The role by women in building Waterloo Bridge during World War Two has been officially recognised for the first time as part of its listed status.
    Waterloo Bridge, built between 1937 and 1945, has Grade II listed status.
    Historian Christine Wall uncovered new evidence of the largely forgotten contribution by women.

    Went on a trip on the Thames last year and the excellent guide on the boat referred to the female builders as we passed beneath. So it looks as if their efforts are being broadcast albeit in different ways.

    Thanks for that - I had no idea.
    Waterloo Bridge had been there from 1817 to the 1920s, but eventually crumbled and needed replacing (thanks to Wiki.)
