Hello All, Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a great new year! I have just finished watching 'Spies of Warsaw' and was wondering if anyone knows of any WW2 series I could watch? Thank you Marie93

Rat Patrol is worth a watch too. Four Allied soldiers (Three Americans and one British) travel long distances behind enemy lines in North Africa. Thier job is to harrass German columns and spy on enemy movements
And Combat! Covers the lives of a squad of infantry soldiers fighting in France in 1944 and 1945. This series tried to be realistic in its portrayal of the difficulties encountered by the typical soldier.
Rat Patrol is worth a watch too. Four Allied soldiers (Three Americans and one British) travel long distances behind enemy lines in North Africa. Thier job is to harrass German columns and spy on enemy movements I love Rat Patrol, but it's more of a real life cartoon of Allied Super Heroes We've touched on the plight of poor Hauptmann Dietrich a couple of times in past threads. At least the guy was persistent! rat patrol - YouTube
Great topic by the way. Really has had me thinking. And am going to put my hat on Band of Brothers. Fantastic series and a rare example of modern production outdoing the old classics.
"Band of Brothers" was indeed good, but I would dearly like to see an equivalent series made about a British unit (or Canadian or Australian, for that matter). Why hasn't this been done yet? God knows the British and CW armies had enough fine units that deserve to have their stories dramatized in a similar way.

God knows the British and CW armies had enough fine units that deserve to have their stories dramatized in a similar way. I have long wished for the same. Alas though, it seems we can only dream, old chap... Give me a 'Band of Brothers' equivalent following men of 50 Div (or any other British or Commonwealth outfit for that matter) and I'd be most delighted.
Well some of these have already been mentioned but I'd say: Colditz, Danger UXB, Secret Army (a brilliant series which was overshadowed by its parody, 'Allo 'Allo), Manhunt and Wish Me Luck I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them at the moment!
I'd love to get hold of a subtitled copy of 'Shtrafbat', a Russian series about the 'punishment battalions' - grimmest of the grim, of course, but it looks very good from the clips I've seen. However, it doesn't seem to have been released on DVD with English subs. It *is* available for devious (illegal) download with subs, but I'm not savvy enough to be able to that, and I generally object to that on moral grounds, anyway! But might have made an exception for this one (since English subs aren't available) if I could have worked out how. Sorry, not a very helpful suggestion!
very good point. A Band of Brothers British equivalent would be an exciting proposition. With the recent improvement in British drama and budgets allocated to them it's not rocket science to identify the opportunity. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything in the pipeline.
"Spies of Warsaw" was from the novel by the excellent Alan Furst, all his other books are well researched and take you back to the intrigues, espionage and spying in Europe of the late thirties/early forties. I wonder from where he gets his information which always seems completely authentic.
The world war1 Australian series "ANZACS" was very well received in Australia and the UK however cutting the to shreds from the original 500 minutes to 100 minutes for US release was a damn shame as I believe they the Americans would have enjoyed the series. Not sure of the other countries where it was released. My dad wore the same shoulder patch in WW2 - 2/8th, 6th Division. A series about the 9th Australian division and their General Sir Leslie Morshead was hinted at the time of "Anzacs" release however the funds must have dried up. The storyline would have encompassed initially the one Brigade training in Australia, (all volunteers) and arriving in Scotland in June 1940, leaving there in November for North Africa, their unscathed retreat to Tobruk, the 8 months there, being held back by Churchill from returning to Australia with the 6th & 7th divisions to fight the Japanese. Their time requipping and Garrison duties in Syria on the Turkish Border. Their return to Australia for jungle training and off to the Pacific theatre. The 2/48th of that division receiving 4 Victoria Crosses and becoming the most decorated Australian unit of the war. It was for his actions at Sattelberg, that Sergent Thomas “Diver” Currie Derrick was awarded the battalion’s fourth VC. Derrick, who had already received a Distinguished Conduct Medal at Alemein, led his patrol forward. He personally captured ten Japanese positions, allowing the rest of the battalion to take Sattelberg the next day. I can always "wish". These are the details for the 2/48th Battalion only.
