    <span style="color:#CC0000"><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%">Welcome to the WW2 Quiz Part 4:</span></span>

Part 3 of the quiz has now been closed. This is because it is nearing the forum size limit of 250 posts max.

    The rules are:

1.Questions must be about any aspect of WWII. This can include the origins of the war and the aftermath.

2.Who ever answers the question correctly first can ask the next question. The person setting the question will state whether answers are correct in the first instance, but if they fail to do so within 24 hours, the quiz supervisor or moderator will invite the person who answered to post a source and decide if the answer is likely to be correct (they may invite opinions at this stage).

3.Google searches (or any other search engine) are allowed.

4.Make sure that the questions you ask are accurate. Both the person setting the question and the person answering it must be able to provide a source if required by any member.

5.If a question is not answered correctly in three days, the questions poster has 24 hours to ask another question. Addition 26/11/04, effective 27/11/04: If the poster has not asked a new question after 24 hours, anyone can ask a question.

6.If the poster's second question is still not answered correctly after three days, anyone can ask a question.

7.Once a question is answered, and verified as correct by the person who set it, the person who answered the question correctly has 48 hours to ask a new question. If a new question is not asked in the allotted time, then anyone can ask a new question.

9.In the event of any dispute over the accuracy of a question or answer, you can take it up with the quiz supervisor or the moderator, who shall decide the issue (but please remember that the quiz is for fun). If the question remains in doubt at this stage, the quiz supervisor or the moderator may post it as a topic for debate on the relevant forum and open the quiz for a new question.

10.After completing the turn, the last person to ask a question must wait 24 hours after the posting of the next question before answering, to give others a chance to win.

11.The quiz supervisor can modify the rules to the quiz at any time, but the change will not come into effect for 24 hours after it is posted.

12.The quiz supervisor is the member who started the quiz until such time as it is agreed that another member takes over.

    13. As long as you follow the rules, you do not have to wait for the quiz supervisor's permission to get on with the quiz - and have fun!

    Marshall Rodolfo Graziani

Rodolfo Graziani was born near Frosinone on August 11, 1882. He served in WW1 and the colonies. He was a Major General by 1930. In 1935, he commanded the Italian Army Group advancing from Somalia to Ethiopia. In 1936, he was appointed Viceroy of Ethiopia and promoted Marshal on May 9, 1936. In 1939, he was named Chief of Staff of the Italian Armed Forces and in 1940 Commander of the Italian Forces in Libya. Relieved in 1941, he did not see any further action until Italy changed sides in 1943.
Graziani was the only Marshal to stay loyal to Mussolini and was appointed Minister of Defence of the RSI. He also commanded the mixed Italo-German "Armee Ligurien". Arrested in 1945, (for collaborating with the Germans after the surrender) he was sentenced to 19 years in prison in 1950, but released in the same year. He died in Rome on January 11, 1955.

Back in Africa, Graziani organized Italian strikes in Libya and Ethiopia (where his cruel actions against civilians earned him the unpleasant nickname "butcher")

Probably 30 years since I was in one and, since you mention it, I cannot remember the last time I saw one. Frankly, I do not know, but if they are still around their presence is not great. Unfortunately, we now have lots of McDs and BKs.

Spidege - yes, we do indeed still have Wimpy Restaraunts in the UK - I live just 5 mins from one. But, somehow, they just don't seem the same as they did when I was a kid in the 1970s. They are certainly outnumbered by BK amd Mickey D's though....

Was it Kirponos from the Soviet Army killed in Kiev 1941 when his headquarters was overrun???

Sorry Spidge, I slipped into the American idiom there - Mickey D's is indeed McDonalds, or "The Golden Arches". The food at Wimpey's - or at least some of it - is tasteless. I had fish 'n chips there the other day and it tasted like damp cardboard!

    [/b]

He was not a Soviet either Gotthard.

General Mikhail Kirponos did die earlier (Sept 1941) than the one I am looking for.

Only a few more allies to disect. Keep going

Sorry Blackblue, neither of the above I'm afraid.

    Not British, American, Russian, Australian.

This occurred in a British colony in Asia in 1941 just before Christmas!

Time is up on the question. Unless Kiwiwriter has the right answer, the rules come into play.
