"Midway" was not commissioned until 10th September 1945
    "Coral Sea" 1st October 1947
    "F.D. Roosevelt" 27th October 1945

Although FDR was first launched as Coral Sea it was renamed FDR 9 days later.

Then that would mean it would be the Essex class carriers wouldn't it?

    Good try but no!

    (2) Cryptic clues about it's beginning.

A town near Regents Park in London

One of the Channel Islands is another "new" clue.

    (1) about it's name

It is named after a place that means swift water.

    No Morse sorry.

Your answer is hot if you would be "laying down" in a yard.

Still have to add the"town" near Regents Park and the third clue to get a result.

It is also a place in New York state - now I have given it to you.

The second battle here encouraged the French to join the Amerians against the English in the AWI and was "the" turning point in the war.

No idea, had a look on some websites but can't find anything. I always thought it was the Essex Class carriers but evidently not. You have got me stumped on this one as I can't find anything :(

    USS Saratoga?

Battle of AWI in New York state and along with Lexington fitted with 8" 55 cal. guns (heaviest armament?).

I cannot make the Camden connection, as I think she was built (and therefore laid down) in New York. The only Camdens I can find in the USA are:

Camden Yards - home of the Baltimore Orioles baseball team.

Camden, New Jersey - a town across the river from Philadelphia.

Battle of Camden, South Carolina in AWI.

Regarding the Saratoga, I saw New York SB Co and assumed this meant New York. I did not know that they had a shipyard at Camden NJ.

Next question - easy if you know the answer. What existing technology was exploited by the German Knickbein target locating system for bombers?
