Found! These would appear to be various different Hurricanes belonging to No 40 Squadron SAAF that was serving in the Middle East in 1942 The 8 different "gremlins" appear to be identical to those included in the linked article. The plane type, location and artwork all match. Jack Orpen
The axe weilding Mickey Mouse emblem is on a Fw 190F fighter bomber, that probably belongs to either Schnellkampfgeschwader 10 or Schlachtgeschwader 2, the only two Luftwaffe ground attack units equipped with Fw 190's that were in Sicily in mid 1943. Col Tate holds the Air Medal, 4 Oak Leaf Clusters to the AM, the DFC and one Cluster. SGT. Edward J. Rubin, of Portage, Wis. (near Madison), tail gunner, has completed 12 missions, incl. the Rome raid. Holds the AM and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. In the raid on Foggia he destroyed an enemy aircraft. T/SGT. Gottrell H.
