No, not found that one - a complete failure to mention motorcycles in the captions ! Who came up with 'Royal Scottish Fusliiers' then ?
They're on a mixture of civilian machines - second from right is an overhead valve Norton and I can see a couple of twin-port Ariel singles. Clearly posed as rear and centre stands are down.

Yes indeed, Keith. The MT110 rear lamp but still fitted to the bracket with the depression for the MT1130 makes this a late '39 - early 1940 WM20.

Just been having a bit of a look through some scans from my collection and after seeing this thread I thought I'd post all the bike pictures I saw (including a sneaky WW1 picture) - hopefully they are of some interest - sorry a couple have other odds and ends in the scans.

    Cheers

There are some great shots there that I'll have to look through properly....But if pre-WW2 photos are OK then I'm going to do it too....:)

Here is a pre-war one from my collection. Sorry for the blurry lower half of the bike.

I think the rider is Royal Scots Fusiliers.

    Can anyone identify the bike?

GK 352 is from a 1930 London series; It doesn't appear in any of my WD lists and the machine looks to be civilian. That combination of a 'modern' saddle tank and vintage style forward mounted magneto makes it look like perhaps a Triumph Model NL. It's a side-valve and lighting sets were options at that time so vary a lot and cannot be used for recognition.

Thanks Rich. It does indeed look like an early thirties Triumph, after looking around it seems to be an NSD model.

"Harley-Davidson Type WLC motorcycle with dispatch rider Frank Shaughnessy of the 2nd Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA).
Prior to WW2, the Canadian Army purchased and used Norton, BSA and Indian motorcycles. Their preference was to use the same motorcycles as the British, their Commonwealth partner.

But as war progressed, England did not have enough motorcycles to meet Canada's needs and they had to turn to other manufacturers, like Harley-Davidson.

WLCs were made from late 1941 through 1944 and were known as the Model 42WLC and Model 43WLC. The 43WLC was made in a 'Domestic' model for use in Canada and an 'Export' version for use overseas. Contrary to the WLA, the WLC Models had two different style Engine Numbers, either 42WLCXXXX or 43WLCXXXX."

Just found this great thread, some cracking pictures! Thought I’d chuck in my grandad on his bike, apologies for the picture quality! Been told that the lamp setup in the forward facing picture is/was quite rare so might be of interest to some of you.

The top photo shows a BSA M20 - A post-war image as it has no blackout equipment. I've seen photos of late-war Canadian troops (particularly military police) with extra lighting - perhaps inspired by the U.S. style.

The lower machine (and what a shame that the print is so badly damaged) shows a Norton WD16H. It has the early rear carrier and a number plate which suggest that it was produced prior to Se^ptember 1940...If the Serial on the front plate ends "2843" then I'm pretty sure that it is C4192843 from contract C6127 and therefore delivered in June 1940. It would have looked quite like this one photographed in 1941.
