Just bought this photo is it a british bike?.
    Keith

Well Keith, strictly speaking it's not, as it is a German NSU OSL 501, but the Engineer Walther Moore, had worked previously for Norton, so the bike looks somewhat British!

    Cheers,

    Lex Schmidt

Belgian Army Gillets (I think...) in Maldegem, close to the market square. This picture must have been taken on May 28th 1940, shortly after the Belgian capitulation. The Belgian despatch riders in this photograph must have belonged to the 39e Linie Regiment, who were fighting in Maldegem at that time and who still have a street (39e Linielaan) named after them (also close to the market square! See Google map below).

Photo of Douglas L29/3 348cc SV Flat-Twin and BSA War office twin 498cc OHV V-Twin in Egypt with a tank unit i think just pre war. Look at the first photo with the guy with the gas mask bag on, his eyes, may be its his first time on sand or he has been out in the sun too long:unsure:.

This is my Uncle , Chris Brighton Brighton. He was with REME and went around on his bike with his tool kit repairing the vehicles used by the searchlight crews providing Monty's Moonlight. View attachment 124851

Thanks for posting those. Both machines are Norton WD16Hs. The top two seem to be the same bike. It has been a little personalised with a valanced front mudguard and a continental horn fixed to the fork leg. These were 1943 production and so probably quite new when they went overseas.

The lower bike, C4868988 would have had engine and frame number W81188. There is a digit not clear on the top one...it must be in the range C4868920 - 4868929 with a frame numbered W81120 - 81129. I have no record of survivors in that range but there is always a chance that an owner could stumble across the photo.

I have only a tiny knowledge of Bikes but this is an image that I snapped when I was down at Blanford Camp in the Signals Museum.
I presume that it is of the period?.

Keith, I've just realised (and it should have been obvious to me straight away...but being a continental sidecar outfit, it should have a right-hand chair and your negative is reversed...This is how it should look !

I rode around the pre-WW1 forts surrounding Liege together with one yesterday. Quite impressive but I think that I'll stick with a nimble solo machine.
