Hi everyone, This is my first post in this forum, any help would be greatly appreciated. My grandfather Patrick Dillon served as a Signalman in India and Burma during the Second World War. I have attached a more detailed information sheet about my grandfather's military service, in summary he served in the Royal Signals Corps and with the 2nd Anti Aircraft (AA) Divisional Signals and then 19 Air Formation Signals. I have received the military record for my grandfather and there is a line that reads "not to evade trial by court martial". I have attached this snippet to this thread. I believe a member on this forum may have access to all of the Second World War court martial records from the National Archives, if anyone has access to these records and has come across a court martial record for my grandfather Patrick Dillon please get in touch. Alternatively, if anyone has any information about the units my grandfather served with please get in touch. Best wishes, James Wood
Hi, Welcome to the forum. Is there anything that suggests he faced a court martial? The phrase you quote is an oft repeated standard phrase endorsed on a man’s service record when he voluntarily elects to take a reduction in rank. Steve

Hi Steve, Thank you very much for your reply. My grandfather did revert to his previous rank, I can't quite work out the rank he reverted to from the attached snippet. This line is directly above the "not to evade trial by court martial" line. We don't know why he reverted to his previous rank, we wondered if he may face a court martial if he did not revert to his previous rank? The answer to your question is I'm not sure now - perhaps this line was included in his record because he reverted to his previous rank. I have attached a longer snippet from his military record in case this is helpful, but I cannot find any more information about a court martial. Thanks again, James
Hi Is it Signalman? The note recorded is just to say his reduction in rank was not due to a "trial by court martial", as the "not to evade" bit indicates. regards Robert
