Hello I am not sure if this is the best place but I was hoping to get some help with some WW2 binoculars. These were given to me by my wifes grandfather who asked me to sell them but I don't know anything about them and how to list them accurately, or in fact if they are worth anything. I have attached some pictures and there is a faint monogram on the case lid Any help is appreciated, thanks.
beh = Ernst Leitz GmbH, Wetzlar, The Eagle/M on the case is a Kriegsmarine [German Navy] property mark.
There are several similar ones listed on ebay. I would however suggest that those you have, look to be in excellent condition & should therefore fetch a premium if you are to offer them for sale. Nick
Usually a good cash value for genuine ww2 items -- before putting it on ebay try specialist military auction houses, they usually will give an estimate from your photos without committing you to sell with them. Try Google for addresses, some may be near you.
Thanks everyone. You mentioned there are some similar on Ebay, can you post a link or an item number so I can have a look at the detail. I would love to have a little more knowledge before heading to a specialist auction house.
cant believe it there is a specialist military auction house right near where I live. Will give them a call on Monday.
All I did was search ebay for 'german WW2 binoculars'. I did say similar, not identical. WWII 7x50 German Navy Kriegsmarine (BEH) U-Boat Binocular & Original Case--Nice | eBay
Auction house could have access to on-line info ( that we can't access) on the object and prices realised for similar. Remember to set a reserve and check the commission charged and if any other fees involved. Item may (but check this) be listed in catalogue on world web;it may cost you about 17% of hammer price; don't feel obligated -- have a cuppa -- compare with ebay = Listing fee + 10% (?) of final value + Paypal fee on the total, but you have to do the packing and deal with any complaints after ! Too much info, sorry.
This is a lte war set of leitz 7x50 nval binoculars, the rubber top caps and objective bumpers are missing, the top caps came in two type one which could be held open and one which could not. The body was textured paint , on the top of each prism chamber a dedicating unit. Although occasionally seen in use by U Boat crews the binocular is more associated and seen in use by S Boat crew. The case shown is correct for the binocular , in the lid , 2 x pairs of fliers which pres on the rubber eye lids on the top caps. (Red and amber). As binoculars go they are not uncommon in collecting circles and presently do command rather high prices , but as with all things price depends on condition and the rubber elements being present and in mint order. In terms of performance the binocular is not as good as the equivalent Zeiss model, the ocular construction is rather over complicated and does not produce as sharp an image.
thanks so much all really pleased with the level of help and detail. I think I will contact the auction house and see what they have to say and then make a decision. If I do sell them personally I need to make sure I advertise them accurately so I am not misleading anyone. I will let you know how i get on.
