  1. I would be most grateful should any Forum member be visiting the PRO if they have time, for a London Gazette search for the award of the British Empire Medal George VI{1st type,1937~47~Civil}to one George Nichols,{Probably Wartime Award as is contained in Card Box of issue},I have tried an online search but probably due to his name being split between two lines or an unknown middle name he is not "findable" Using just "Nichols" gives over 500 listings, which on trying to work through them seem to be mostly Commissions & Solicitors Notices!;I would appreciate Photo~copies of Gazette Entries & Preambles & will willingly pay for those costs,Thanking you in anticipation I would love to be able to get there myself but am unable to do so,Regards Roger[P/M for my details if you would like to help;RAV]

  2. I am pleased to say after a long search through over 350 names & ten years of Gazettes On Line;I found him!{Strange its always the last one you look @!,I started in 1937 so obviously he had to be 1946 didnt it?}He was awarded the BEM as a Chargehand @ Laurence;Scott & Co;Ltd,Hardy Road;Norwich,{Electrical Motor Manufacturers~With MOD Links Today for Submarine Electric Motors}in the New Years Honours List of 1st January 1946~So presumably for War Work Services @ the Norwich Plant.I have Contacted LSE,Who still occupy the site @ Norwich in the hope they may retain some in house material concerning George Nichols & his BEM,possibly in a Company Magazine etc,Here's Hoping! :D
