    Hi Brian and welcome.
Can you post scans of the relevant page(s) so we can see the context?

he did something -untoward- WHILE ON ACTIVE SERVICE - and thus was posted from a soft office job - probably Deputy Admin Office of a Major General - I'm guessing this one ....
    Cheers

DOAMG is probably DAQMG - Deputy Assistant Quartermaster General. The (M) might be Movements, which sounds plausible in the context of ports.

WOAS I've had to look up: whilst on active service.

    AWM have a good glossary.

    Hi All,

Returning to this after a couple of years as we are in the process of writing-up / transcribing father's military record.

The abbreviation definitely looks like DAOMG (M) - Please see attached image.

What I am wondering is if the MG is Machine Gun(nner) as this would fit in with his military record.

    Any help - greatly appreciated.

    thanks

Why are you asking if the MG is machine gunner when the answer was given back in 2012 by Idler & confirmed by Wills.
    Read posts #4 & #5.

No, it's still Deputy Assistant Quartermaster General (Movements), in this sense probably the department rather than the staff officer himself.

A couple of lines above it explains that your father was given a temporary staff/admin job on the ship. If he was office-based in civilian life, that could explain why he was picked.

As I was typing up the records I searched for the abbreviation and came across this post that my dad had made some time ago.

Apologies for any confusion - I was using my father's login to attach the image as requested in the last post.

    Thanks Again.

There is another possibility for the M in Deputy Assistant Quartermaster General (M), Mediterrean

Llandarff Castle was with Convoy WS 6A which sailed from Avonmouth, Liverpool and the Clyde with all sections joining off Oversay 9.2.41.
Arrived at Freetown 1.3.41, where it joined with WS 6B to sail again as a combined convoy.
It then joined convoy WS 6 at Freetown leaving there 8/3/41.
Then Capetown and putting in at Mombasa on 8/4/41.
From there all ships proceeded independently to Suez.
Not been able to find which route it came home by.
But was sunk by U-177 At 17.29 hours on 30 Nov 1942.

During WW2 there was a Lt Colonel who was DAQMG (Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General) He was nothing to do with 'movement'. What was his job?
There was also DAQMS mentioned what is that?

I can guarantee the DAQMG (M) in this document refers to Movements
