    Please help!

I am trying to discover more about my Grandads war years, the very sketchy info i have is that he served in Italy and Africa during WW2 and he was in the 8th army. He was from Kendal.

I have tried the war records website and no luck. Which regiment was he likely to have been in? Borders perhaps?

I remember him telling me he was on an anti aircraft gun and that he paid the locals in cigs to run to the top of the pyramids and thats it!!!

    thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.
First step would be to send for his service records. Costs £30 and takes a while but will give you units he served with and where.

    Hi and welcome

If he was on an AA gun then most likely in the Royal Artillery.
DO you have his service number, it will give you an answer.
Unless he was awarded a medal for gallantry or he died, you wont find any records on that site, or anywhere.
You need to apply for his service records - http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html

    regards
