WW11 South African POW records.

    Today I received the information from the ICRC, I was so pleased. It consists of a card signed by my father, a sheet with his personal information and an attestation showing his movements from camp to camp.

    Hi folks,
    I am also trying to find references to a soldier at Camp 54 named Douglas Whittle. My question relates to whether he was on of those who got out in the escapes after the armistice or was one of those on the train when they were all moved by the Germans. The train was bombed by the Americans with heavy loss of life on a bridge at Allerona. A description plus a list of prisoners known to be on the train is here:

    It is a fascinating site with lots of personal accounts from survivors. It makes you realise how lucky anyone who survived Camp 54 was to be alive at the end of the war.
