WW1 Memorial to WW2 Ordnance!

    This is a First World War German Field Gun which stood in the town centre of Comber, County Down.

    It was a Memorial to Edmund De Wind who was from Comber and won the Victoria Cross whilst serving with the Royal Irish Rifles.

    The picture shows it being cut up for the metal to be used during the Second World war!

    I wonder if this was a common practice?
