Not sure if this is in the right place, please move if not..... My great uncle, John William Mayer, Kings Liverpool Regiment, died in France 22 June 1918. I believe he would have been awarded the basic medal entitlement, to cut a long story short as far as I know they have never been seen by the family. If they were awarded and lost over the years can replicas be obtained? If so what would have been his entitlement and how would I go about applying for replacements? Thank you all, stay safe. Peter
Hello Peter not much help but link here Replacing and claiming medals It is Ministry of Defence policy to not issue medal replacements for service before 1920, irrespective of entitlement. You may be able to obtain duplicate medals from a coin or medal dealer British military campaign and service medals - The National Archives

Thank you Clive and Tony. Clive, Seems I might be wasting my time in contacting the MOD. Tony, I do have all that but thank you anyway, I do have more details re what the 6th Battalion were doing around that time. As my great uncle is listed as ‘died’ I’ve always wondered if the cause was the Spanish Flu that was prevalent at that time. Once again thanks to both of you for your help.
Hi Peter, From the medal index card John's medal entitlement was the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. See photo example below. The MOD will not send out replacement WW1 medals, unless you can prove that the originals were returned by the recipient or his family. Medals: campaigns, descriptions and eligibility
Weren't Great War medals always sent to next of kin, together with the Memorial Plaque in cases of death in service ?
Almost certain you are correct. WW1 medals were issued (to recipient or NoK), whereas WW2 medals had to be applied for. Looks like application by father for a Dependant's pension was refused: Tim
