I have been trying to get info about my uncle, William Crumplin, born Winchfield +/_1895 registered Winchfield (possibly Hartley Wintney)
According to my mother, he was in the Hampshire Regiment: according to archives he was possibly transfered to Welsh Fusiliers. I only know he was killed in 1916. I am told he is on the Hartley Wintney War Memorial but I cannot get there to see. Would be happy to have better information.

Hello Dave, I hope you can help: I have got 9002, Pte. S. Butchers, of 148th Coy MGC (Infantry) who died 7 Sep 1916 buried at Hamel Mil Cem.
He served as BROWN, why he did so is unknown...was this a common occurance?
I downloaded his medal card and it gives two Regt no's.... the above and 34911 Welsh Regt.
Any info.on him would be appreciated.
    Tom.

Me again. I recently found my other ggrandfather's service records.

He got wounded twice, so would like info on 4th Middlesex that covers the following two dates:
    July 1916
    November 1916

    Many thanks,
    Chris

    Hi
I'm looking for any info on the 10th London Regiment

sorry, but I don't have the 10th London's history. I do have the war diary (1917-1919) for the 2/10th, but I don't know whether this is the one you want.

can you be more specific as regards regiment/battalion that you need looking up as the only 1916 William Crumplin showing on CWGC database was in the Dorsetshire Regiment. I could probably find out the full story, but that's beyond the scope of this thread.

sorry, but I've got no histories for the MGC, nor do I have the 148 Coy War Diary. As for serving under an alias... not uncommon (though far rarer than serving under the true name) for a variety of reasons.
