    Hello,
I'll be the first to admit I don't know nearly enough about WWII but I'm trying to write a book for my Grandfather. He was in the 3rd army 277th B Battery Field Artilery in WWII. I'm not even really sure what all of that means. What sites can I look at that would help me? I would appreciate any and all help to do this for him.

Grandpa's been telling me stories since I was very little but he is older now of course and doesn't remember a lot of the dates, places etc.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi GG
Welcome to the mad world of reminiscers, and the best of luck.
I wrote (or started to write) my own for my great grandchildren.
Best advice, unless you're going to publish it, is to use your own memory of what he has told you, before you too forget, and worry about the chronology and filling in precise dates afterwards. With cut and paste of wordprocessors this is a piece of cake. When your grandad reads what's written he'll probably be abl to paper over some of the cracks, and you'll be able to make specific enquiries for particular events. Have you Googled '3rd Army ....' ?
    Good luck
    Les.

    Grandpa's girl -
You might find that there are not too many American Vets on this forum who would have much more information about Gen Patton's 3rd army in NW Europe than the majority of us who are - in the main British vets .....however you might get lucky and find an ex 3rd army man ...we shall be very pleased to help in any way we can of course ...so the best of luck to you.....

    Cheers

My grandfather saw Gen Patton in France...but he does not remember when he says 1943 sometime. He says Gen Patton was moving to the front lines. Any idea when that was?

    GPG -
Gen Patton was fully occupied in North Africa from November '42 -to May '43.... then in July - August in 1943 in Sicily with his 7th Army which included Gen Bradley's 2nd US corps - then he was fired for striking two sick soldiers and did not appear again until after D Day in France at the head of 3rd Army in July 1944 -with Gen. Bradley as his boss.... so Grandpa would have seen him in France after July 1944 and until the end of hostilities in Germany in May 1945.....

    Cheers

    GPG -

Goering was tried at Nuremburg - Germany for War Crimes - found guilty and condemned to death - committed suicide the night before his execution - the trials ran from 1945 - 1949 - yo can read more of this here ;--
