Not strictly within the time limits of WW2, but an example of the advances made in technolgy. I came across this in the Guiness book of records.

First Jet Aircraft landing on an Aircraft Carrier.

Flying a Sea Vampire of the Royal Navy, registration LZ551/G, Eric "Wrinkle" Brown (UK) became the first person to land and take off in a jet aircraft from an aircraft carrier (HMS Ocean) on 3rd December 1945.
