7 minutes added on to the 90 mins at 21.55 hrs. Do the Yanks have a manager of the name of Alex Ferguson? No exchange of tops. No penalty by the way. My niece would have scored that one. Crap.
I haven't been watching, though I did read some of the stories about the whole thing. 1. I'm sorry it had to come down to US v England. I generally root for England in international football and I'm something of an Anglophile as well, so it was a bit painful to see the US go on at England's expense. 2. I'd heard the stories of poor sportsmanship as well. I put that down to the rapid spread of rotten manners and general oafishness here in recent years. It's at its worst in our politics but you see it everywhere and in everything. 3. Given that, I was glad to see Rapinoe embrace that distressed England player. That's more like the right spirit.
Well the England team managed to include all the men's favourite ways of exiting a World Cup in one match. They were great all tournament, but have seen the level you need to be at to win a championship. USA were too organised and strong, they had 11 great players and determination and belief. England have good players, but only four great ones. That was the difference. Still a very enjoyable competition to watch.
I watched them in the quarters, very resilient, almost like a boxer trying to wear out their opponent and win on points.
Was it a good match : no! Did we win: YES! Jackie Groenen absolutely top notch … what a goal from this 24-years old law student! USA here we come!!
