I've finally received my copy of Women in the Second World War to review here on the forum! (After having been sent mistakenly Tracing Your London Ancestors lol).

Anyway, have started said missal and so far its been an interesting read.

Did you know that Lord Nuffield paid for the ATS girls' sanitary pads, so that the girls didn't have to pay for them? Something that perhaps male commentators wouldn't even think to mention, but something I had wondered about myself :).

Also, one of the ladies who was interviewed worked at Bassingbourne, where my uncle did his OTU training. I'm going to send her a letter asking of she actually met/knew him.

Once I've finished I will post the review for everyone.

To be fair, in those days no woman would ever have mentioned sanitary wear to men, and, if men did hear about it, they would have regarded it as improper to discuss it in public. Nether underwear was known literally as "unmentionables".

BTW, it was OCTU, not OTU.

    Er txs lol.

Not according to my uncle's service record & the guys at RAF Hendon. It quite clearly says OTU

    Nicola -
I do think that the difference being OTU was for(RAF) Operational Training Unit whereas OCTU was Officer Cadet Training Units e.g Sandhurst et al ..Drayton is however correct as this other subject was never discussed -in those more modest days
    Cheers
