Does anybody know where I can find out what roles women played in the construction trades during WWII? I am writing a paper on the subject of women in construction today, and would like to find out what building work women did back then.
I can't give you any specific details, but it might have been limited. Aside from defence related projects, the construction industry had a bit of a quiet time due to the shortage of materials, even for repairing bomb damage. For instance, there was no house building to speak of during WWII, resulting in a severe housing shortage in the late 1940s.
