Just skimming through A history of the RAOC, and came across this: Due to a shortage of transport, getting winter clothing to the front was a problem and, "local production was developed and 10,500 rabbit skin coats were issued to the Armies in December"

Anyone got any pics of troops in Rabbit? No specifics of what units or even where the units were is mentioned.

Here a German version, as far as i know. AT the end of WW2 german soldiers wear Coats with RAbbit fur.
Here a picture of the German version.
Maybe the 10.500 where from German stock. You see it is for under a jacket.

Hi and welcome Bedee, interesting item there, never thought of the fur being on the inside!

Rabbitskin is quite luxurious. I had a jacket made from it in the 1970s. I expect it's banned now.
I was reading recently that Russian troops, and people living in Siberia, wore clothes made from dog fur.

I had rabbit skin gloves in the 50's and we ate rabbit a lot until the myxomatosis outbreak.in late 50's. Some places here in Scotland are overrun with rabbits and we should be eating it and using their fur like they do in the Continent. Cheap source of protein!
