Gp Capt Ron Powell has, after a career in the RAF, taken to writing books. As Gp Capt University Air Squadrons, he was my Boss before he retired prematurely in 2005. His book, Wings Over Summer, is a Battle of Britain novel dedicated to Plt Off H L (Laurie) Whitbread, a Spitfire pilot of No 222 Sqn shot down by a Messerschmitt Bf109 on 20 Sep 1940. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wings-Over-Summer-ebook/dp/B00D2VLXNM#reader_B00D2VLXNM The Kindle edition is 99p. It gets good reviews from those who have responded. Roxy
Hello Roxy there was an article in the Shropshire Star last week about the book also a couple of links here about the pilot http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/21862-battle-of-britain-pilot-po-hlwhitbread/ http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/42099-remembering-today-20940-pilot-officer-hlwhitbread-royal-air-force-222-sqdn/ regards Clive
I've just finished reading it - I enjoyed it. A couple of events had me thinking back to scenes in the film 'Battle of Britain'; I'm still not sure if it was a good idea or not; however, it didn't detract from the story. Notwithstanding, especially for 99p, well worth a pop. Roxy
