I am researching Wing Commander Tom A Whiting. WC Whiting was a member of the 107 Squadron and the navigator for Sir Basil Embry on the Blenheim that was shot down over St.Omer France on May 28, 1940. According to reports Whiting was captured very soon after the crash but I’m not so sure how accurate that is because at some point after the crash Whiting encountered my family that’s had taken refuge in a farm in the area. At some point before his capture he spent some amount of time with them because he wrote his name and address in my grandmothers diary and gave her his flight gloves, which to me it seems he was not captured within moments of the crash. We still have those gloves and the gloves are the reason I am searching for information on Whiting after his time in the RAF. He retired in 1967 and possibly worked for the Ministry of Defense after his retirement. He passed away in 2006. I am hoping to eventually locate his family. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, I am Wg Cdr Whitings ex son in law. I am still in touch with his daughter, my ex wife Alicia Chivers. She is the Chief Executive of the RABI. If you Google her you can find her contact details.

Wg Cdr Whiting passed away in about 2006. He was an amazing character and lovely man. I am ex RAF too and we spent many hours talking about his exploits. Apparently he never talked about this part of his life before so I felt very privileged. I am sure Alicia would be thrilled to hear from you.

    Regards Nigel Chivers
