Thanks everyone for your kind messages and thanks, Paul, for choosing my caption. I'm amazed to have won, given all the other excellent entries.
My brother and I are planning a trip to Normandy for the D-Day anniversary in 2014 and Paul's book will be put to good use.

Just to let everyone know that I’ve received Walking D-Day from Paul and I can highly recommend it to anyone planning a visit to the Normandy battlefields.

The book’s format is excellent - giving detailed accounts of the fighting in a particular sector, followed by a well thought-out walking tour of the same area.

Paul has done a fine job in untangling the chaos, complexity and confusion of the military operations, and making the story of the whole invasion front accessible and interesting.

I wish I’d had such a book on my previous trips to Normandy and I’ll certainly be taking this along in 2014. It will help many walk effortlessly in the footsteps of those D-Day heroes and – more importantly – appreciate afresh their courage and sacrifice.
