    Hi,

I don’t think anyone on the forum will be able to tell you this man’s Battalion on the basis of the information you’ve provided. as you can’t tell a Battalion from a picture and medals alone.

You might be able to identify a regiment if the Cap badge is visible on the headgear or if the regimental name is on the epaulettes which isn’t the case in the photo.

The Medals suggest service in Mediterranean/Africa, Italy/Balkans and North West Europe. I’d have thought the medal group would also have included a 39/45 Star?

Your bets bet is to tell your friend to apply to U.K. MOD - assuming he is believed to be a U.K. soldier as Canadian Scot’s Regiments also wore similar hedgear - via this link

Get a copy of military service records

    Good Luck

    Steve

    EDIT TO ADD

Is the item on his left wrist a Warrant Officer rank badge or a regimental symbol. I can’t make it out as it’s too blurred

It does. Ribbons are not on the correct medals. 39-45 Star ribbon is on War Medal and vice versa.

    Edit.
Medals with correct ribbons in correct order:

Quite right Tim. I need new glasses! Apologies to the O.P. for my error.

You have posted a number of times asking about various individuals and our advice is, always, as per #7 above, to send off for the official service records. These are only available from the MOD via the link supplied. The important thing to remember is that you do not need to have any military information (regiment, number etc) just name, date of birth and a death certificate, unless they were KIA in which case a copy of the memorial certificate from the CWGC site will suffice.

Once a timeline of their service has been established the relevant war diaries can be used to find the locations and theatres they were involved in.
