William Pullen Reay, 4460671 of the 143 Special Service Company DLI india/burma wounded in 1944

    Hi everyone im wondering if anyone can help me get any sort of information about my grandad he severed with the D.L.I in ww2 ive applied to the m.o.d for his service records to no avail just wondering if anyone on here could help....his name is Willian Pullen Reay, service number 4460671 of the 143 Special Service Company DLI Wounded in Action Burma reported 27/05/44 all I have on him is his records of going threw many diffrent hospitals after he had his right calf shot off

    What reason did MOD give for not providing his records, presumably you sent all the required info i.e. death certificate?

    Gary,

    You name him as Willian, or is that mistake. Should it be William?

    His name(s) and number have not appeared here before.

    The National Archives (TNA) do not display his Service Record - either by his name(s) or number, that can mean it remains with the MoD or is in the queue at TNA. Conceivably it could be lost, one member has spotted repeated mistakes by TNA in indexing.

    The snag is that his Service Record is the definitive document of his service. Other Ranks rarely get a mention online or in books or War Diaries.

    We have a couple of members here whose focus is the DLI, so I would suggest you amend the thread title to his name, number and serving with DLI in India / Burma. The title is important to get attention. See the advice in Post 31: Threads with clear titles, in the right section, get a better response.

    Hi thanks for the reply yeah his name was william pullen reay his name and number would never of been on here before as im the only one in my family thats ever tried to find out any information about his time in the service.

    I have applied to the M.O.D a few times to no avail at all ive never had a reply up until a few weeks ago when a member of this group sent me an email that worked.....I have sent off all the details that they asked for now just waiting on a reply was just curious to see if anyone could find anything on him

    The first 2 times they never replied then a member of this group who I speak to on another site sent me an email address for someone that actually work they have gotten back to me and I have sent off all the documents they asked for I was just curious to see if anyone could find anything out about my grandad
