William Anderson R63095 help needed MN

    She was RFA salvage vessel, missed out on the Africa star by days. He witnessed both Italian landings op husky in July 43 and the landings in sept 43 as well as Normandy in June 44

    Went to Malta and famously towed the warspite

    Also was in the azzores at some point

    Looks like it was crewed by MN personnel as many listed dead to this ship.

    His medals are 39-45 star Atlantic with F&G clasp Italy star and war medal

    Although closely related the RFA (Royal Fleet Auxillary) are crewed by merchant seamen. Probably need to do a bit more research as to why she is listed as HMS. As you probably know a ship cannot be called HMS and fly the White Ensign unless she is commissioned into the RN.

    I think it maybe a mistake, same as my grandfathers ship was made Hms in 1941 but listed as a merchant ship in 1944 and again hms on next convoy
