I have always found it very hard to conprehend why the US take care of their war graves selectively. I will use a foreign cemetary as an example. Fort Stotsenburg/Clark Field has been an american base since 1898 through to the handover in 1992?. Along the perimeter road just past checkpoint is a grave yard that is the final resting place for american war dead, civilian labour & the families of Us service personel stationed there. The graves cover the Spanish American War both US & Spanish, The Philippine Insurrection ( thats a joke), WW1, WW2 non service personel killed during the air raid on 8th December 1941 + family of service personel stationed there. NO money is forthcoming from the Government of the United States of America for the upkeep of the graves or site. (which I feel is an absolute disgrace). There attitude that they have the ABMC in Manila & that is all they care about. It has fallen on the local VFW in Angeles city to try to raise funds to pay for 1 gardener to keep the place tidy (not pristine like you see at Normandy or other ABMC establishments). They raise money by selling sertificates to tourists as " honorary gravediggers" & local raffles and the like. Can anyone give me an insight as to why the US disrespsects it war dead in this way? sorry just felt that I needed to rant about this regards Simon
