    You say:
Why is it so important to have a post count.?
We'll leave one of the mods to give the official viewpoint but, before they do, I'll give you my own slant on this subject.

I see that I "officially" joined the forum in 2004 but, because I became more involved in ww2f, I didn't actually start posting here until 2007.

On both sites I found the post-count useful in that at the time it gave one a clear indication of which members were "serious" and who could be relied on to locate research data for those who had recently joined the forum.

Over the last five years I find that I have similarly clocked up a few points and like to think that I sometimes serve a similar role for those who have just joined our ranks.

When my postings first reached the 1,000 marker (and I was rash enough to mention the fact in a PM to one of the mods) I received a tartly worded reply that said in effect "on this site, we don't go in for congratulating folk on the number of their entries !"

On reflection, he (no names-no pack drill!) was perfectly correct and I have seen my post-count inevitably rise over the years with no further comment from me other than to moan when I think that someone is changing the goal posts.

Unless the big boss decides to do another update this should be my 3876th posting............... doesn't time go fast when you are having fun ? :)

and fraternal greetings from one oldie to another !
    Ron

But I am not Hoolig, just a relative using his Computer, with his permission I hasten to add.

Then just pass my good wishes on !

Relative of hoolig, why not set up your own account?
The more the merrier, and it may avoid confusion!

Thank you for all the replies, appreciate you taking the time.

Could you make that clear each time you post, please.

You are quite wrong; as Moderators of this forum we do not permit third parties to post on behalf of others unless there are exceptional circumstances and that is made clear each time a post is made.

Otherwise the ability to abuse that is quite obvious, surely?

With due respect, I don't think that is any concern of yours.

I think it's a concern of every member of this forum, thank you.

I refer you back to my previous statement. People posting on behalf of others has problems.

I am happy to explain it to Hoolig when he next comes back online in person, as we seem to be failing to explain it to you.

Please understand if you are using another members log in it could be abused(I am not saying that is the case with yourself)

As VP states open an account of your own and join in.

Already there was slight confusion from Ron sending his best wishes to Hoolig in a post not of Hoolig's design.

The Moderators are just stating the rule of the forum. Please do not take offence to this.

I have passed your comments on to Hoolig, he was not impressed with your statement.

That's fine. I'm not impressed with multiple users of one account. It's unfair on other members.

Thanks for that - I must confess I keep forgetting about the ongoing problems at ww2f.

Have added a warning about clicking.

This is about as worth an argument as why post counts have dropped.

Hoolig's rellie - technically multiple users on one account are agin' the rules.
Obviously I don't really care if someone's helping someone out, it is after all only the Internet, but it's always nice if a secondary user on a veteran's account might mention it's them when popping in (one or two other veterans' kids and friends have done so while helping out in the past) - otherwise on a WW2 site it's really easy for people to think a passing comment might be from the WW2-bloke himself.

We're a tad sensitive to that, because of previous bother with people impersonating veterans, and one chap who gave his Veteran logon away publicly on a very odd forum a while back.
It ain't personal, please don't take offence, but there has been grief with it.
Easily resolved with a 'Hoolig's rellie here', or getting yer own free account if the site interests.

So...we all revert from our 'temporary' to our 'permanent' ranks?

    This IS Hoolig.
    Enough Enough poor Hoolig cried
    Enough Enough I'm mortified.
What's all the ho ha about that need Super Moderater and other assorted comments, with reference to imposters why not delete the post, and send a private message, instead of posting for all to see.
