The cod liver oil I could stomach but the malt? Ooh no no no no.

Subjected to the nose holding method of malt delivery many times. Their feet wouldn't touch the floor for that nowadays!

Kind regards, a spoonful of sugar? No such occurrence. Ever!

    Jim.

I have no doubt no nose holding was required in your case Lesley. Girls are made of stronger stuff.

    Kind regards, boys whining, always,

    Jim.

There was a bit about extract of malt in A A Milne, wasn't there? The things parents do to get their kids to take their medicine. :)

Parents I would have taken it from without their resorting to noseholding Chris.

But a built like a brickhouse headscarved "helper" (doubled as a dinner lady!) who shut off all nose breathing with her cigarette smoking nicotine stained mitt (Capstan Full Strength I think) as a norm; No, not a favourite :)

Can stil taste the malt. Can still smell the cigarettes.

    Happy days eh?

Kind regards, Player's Navy Cut fifty tin, always,

    Jim.

I myself am of the opinion that it is ultimately irrelevant exactly how many people were murdered: In any case, there were far too many.
This breach of civilisation in itself was so monstrous that exaggerations are not even possible and thus also prohibit any relativisation

Unfortunately, I know enough of such zero-sum debates from the German-speaking world
However, they far too often degenerate into sterile numbers games in which participants forget that we are not talking about nuts and bolts, but about human existences that have suffered a terrible fate

Here in the forum, on the other hand, a mixture of black humour and mocking cynicism dominated, without detracting from the content of the debate
I am really impressed and realise once again why I feel so at home here in the digital English diaspora

    Just wanted to say that

I have a confession; I find the whole arena around conspiracy theories & deniers interesting.

Just to be crystal, I am not a believer in any whacky theories, I'm just interested in why people should peddle such ideas.

It seems to me that there are at least 3 groups at play; 1) those that create theories, 2) those that believe in such theories, and 3) those that just want to create a bit of excitement (in themselves) by raising these ideas on the net to entice people to respond & give a reaction. I think many 'flat-earthers' fall into this 3rd group.

The theory creators may be doing this in an attempt to gain some kind of power; possibly by gaining followers & possibly also financial gain (I'd put some religions in this category).

Then you have the believers. I think many are trying to reinforce their world view, whether this is related to Holocaust, Climate Change, or whatever; there is something they [want to] believe in, and they now have a sciency (not scientific) structure to build on.

Earlier this year I met a 'Creationist', my first ever encounter with such a creature. As far as I could tell (& I may be being generous here) he believed every word of this nonsense. And I think he needed to, in order to backup his strong belief as a Christian that the 'good book' was accurate in all respects.
Unfortunately Creationists make me angry because they have the power in many parts of the world (not just the third world) to deny children a proper, science based education.

But as I get older, I seem to get less angry about peoples behaviour, the 'spread' of which stretches from unspeakably awful & cruel, to fantastically kind & generous. Its just the way we are! I'm running out of ideas (& time) on how to change it!

Actually, I don't think there is very much difference between the people of 2025 AD & those from 2025 BC. Its true that some now know which buttons to press on a mobile phone & a few have even mastered their 9 times table, but we just stand on the shoulders of giants. The giants in question are the super-smarts & there are always a few of them in any population. Unfortunately they are balanced out by those at the other end of the 'bell-curve'.

Getting back to this thread; statistically, this person is more likely to be male than female, and much more likely to be in my category 3 than category 1 or 2.

I think it is worse than we think.
I was happy with a tea ( tea bag or loose)or a coffee (powdered)

Then the rot set in. In my honest opinion

    Espresso black and strong

Latte a milky drink with a splash of coffee very weak.
Cappuccino a frothy drink with less milk and a bit stronger coffee

Mocha a coffee and chocolate mix with milk
Various other combinations with syrups added.
All come in small ,regular or large
    Then the
Flat white which always comes in about 4 or 5 mouthfuls less than the medium sizes above but on the whole a stronger drink. However some establishments now offer a flat white in a ramekin type cup with no handles whereby one either has to wear steel worker gloves or allow the drink to cool down before handling. Quite frankly a nice drink for me but a small quantity.

The price on all drinks has risen nearly to £5 per cup. If you add a cake the price is £9 to £10

I'd expect change from a florin for that.

Kind regards, black coffee, hunk of pain blanc, beaucoup de beurre, to be consumed quickly and run off quicker, always.

Too bad we don't have any evidence that senior military officers, like EISENHOWER saw the evidence first hand.

Jim to be honest once you start adding French phrases into the mix prices go up. Complicating the whole mocca locca poppa coffee.
Never thought coffee and walnut cake would work with a coffee
Oh no I forgotted the Americano how remiss of me.
