Why does WW2 log you out after a certain time?

?

Are you successfully staying logged in to WW2Talk after ticking the 'Remember Me' box?

If you use Firefox as your browser download the Textarea Cache add-on. It saves anything you've typed into a text box even if you switch off your PC before you have posted it.

I have been having the same trouble! :icon_crash: Still not mastered the navigation! I usually open a second window and copy if it starts to look iffy.

So great post and I will make good use of the remember me button from now on, thanks, you guys are hilarious! Love the banter.

Tick the 'remember me' box when you log in.

If that doesn't sort it - and it does in most all cases I get relating to this (you are not alone) - It'll most likely be a security setting on your browser that's disallowing cookies.
Problem is; there are many browsers, and many reasons for having uncommonly high 'security' settings, so I'm loath to give individual suggestions. The forum works to a resonable 'web average' set of requirements and it's not really my place to tell people how to set up their pooters.

Good practice is to quickly select and copy the entire text of a post before hitting Go Advanced/Preview/Submit. I do this as a matter of course for medium/long posts on any forum I use now, as it means if there's a crash or hangup I can just paste the lost text back in once I've sorted the glitch. Keeps the swearing to a minimum.

Well done Alan, for bringing that point up.

Just to add to the general point, for some time now I find that logging on to this site at 06:30 a.m. from my neck of the woods (UK) takes at least 5 minutes of persistent tries. If I break-off to try ww2f at the same time, I have no problems whatsoever in making a connection.

If I remember correctly (I maybe wrong) that is the time Otto chose for the server to back stuff up as he thought we'd all still be in bed over here.

In which case he should have arranged to do the necessary between 12:30 a.m and 5:30 a.m :)

Probably a bit late to come back to this. But I ticked the remember me button, and blow me it does too! :) I don't have to sign in every time I visit, it knows who I am . How clever is that :D

Given it a couple of days now and I haven' lost sign in yet! :curtsey:

    :thankyousign:

I always use 'remember me' on this and several other forums and have never had a 'log out' problem but still tend to use word or similar for composing longs posts.
I have a terrible habit however of failing to log off sites when I (eventually) succumb to the need for sleep and therefore remain logged on for sometimes days on end whilst not actively viewing the site.
Does this cause WW2Talk (and other similar sites) a problem?

I am guilty of that also - Mea culpa.

Honesty is the best policy.........well, sometimes. ;)

And with that I will log off.

Until I need my next history fix.
