I was watching this episode with my Dad, we both said the same thing, too much time spent on Marianne's own life, not enough on her ancestry.
WDYTYA New Series starts Thursday 7th August 9pm BBC1 http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-06-27/brendan-ocarroll-billy-connolly-and-mary-berry-sign-up-for-who-do-you-think-you-are
Thanks for letting me know about the new series. Wish I could help on your 10th Black Watch thread. I'm hoping to get to the BW museum in Perth in the next couple of weeks for a look around. Maybe try asking about the 10th on their Facebook page if you have an account with FB. Cheers - Maria
Wasn't a bad start to the new series. Scenery reminds me I must get over to Ireland for a visit one of these years. It's beautiful. I enjoyed hearing about the Land League as well.
I was glad Brian's family history perked up a bit by the end of the program. Tales of the work houses are always grim. I learnt something new as well. Didn't realise that when applying for poor relief, you could be shunted back to your original parish for them to pay for you. Might explain why my great gran ended up in Glasgow after being orphaned in Edinburgh. Another family tree paper trail I've yet to follow up! Who is on next?
I enjoyed it too. Pleased to see that the brothers finally got together. Next up is Tamzin Outhwaite http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04fh1d6 Lesley
I found Tamzin's family Italian side very interesting. Finding out about her family interred at the Isle of Man inspired me to look at a German husband of my great aunt in WW1. I have found the attached this morning at the International Red Cross archives. Any advise on finding out what all the codes stand for?
Hi, Have a look on Great War Forum. There have been many threads started there since the records went on line 3 weeks ago. Loads of help available there. Regards Steve Y
Now I'm no fan of Mrs Brown or her boys by a long chalk, but this was interesting. Some dubious history and a bit of making two plus two equal five, but great TV and I watched it all - a rare occurrence for me these days.
The Brendan O'Carroll episode has been extensively discussed on the Great War Forum. The historical research seems to have left a lot to be desired.
Not so familiar with the GWF and good to see their search engine is as good as ours. could you give me a lead? My view is you do not publish anything that is not factual but who wants to hear any bad news? lol Not good press. Nick
