Hi all, newbie here so hope all present and correct. Trying to ID this gent. Potential grandfather in Whitstable, Kent 1941/42 possibly named G. Thompson (Gerald?) are there any company details obvious other than the RA based on the uniform? Have photographer # on reverse but records lost. Any help appreciated.

With the badges on his collar, the style of hat & the type of jacket this photo is taken between the wars or early in WW2. From 1937 troops started wearing battledress, rather than the jacket shown, but this older jacket may have been retained for more official purposes. My gt uncle a welsh guards regular, was married in this type of jacket in 1940, but would have worn battledress for ordinary duties.

The style of the photo suggests late 1930's ?
