Hello Gent I may add my info to all your I have the war diary from my granddads unit 5th Royal West Kent stating the convoy left on the 20th September 1943 to Italy I hope this helps Regards Alan
Bear in mind that individual ships often sailed some hours before the convoy assembled; usually once clear of pilotage waters. Escorts also sailed at various times, and in many cases from different ports.
Hi, I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if you could help? I found this information really interesting, however, I was wondering if you knew which ships were A, B and C and which regiments went on which, or suggest a place I might research? My grandad was in the 52nd (Manchester) Field Regiment, part of the 8th Indian Division, I've managed to track down his travels by boat, except the one from Alex to Taranto. I guess it must be either the Derbyshire, Ruys or Tegelberg. I have the war diaries for his regiment, that just reads that the regiment embarked on three ships, not as helpful as the diary entry in this thread. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
