I think that the m1 Garand is an outstanding weapon because it could work in all weather conditions. and it was reliable. Ditto.:exactly:
For stopping power I vote Lee Enfield Cheers Paul You can work the Enfield's bolt rather quickly also.
Always thought the MP40 looked great. Some American soldiers would use the MP40 for house clearing and said there was no better weapon. True of some Brits too, and much easier on the chain of supply of course.
On the other hand my M1 Garand firing 185 grain fmj's blew a hole thru a 16" diameter hardwood tree and left a hole you could stick your fist into on the exit. That is interesting.
The 303 had a kick like a mule.[/quote] The 303 British is mild in kick, try the 7.62x54R in the Mosin Nagant then you will have kick.
Not on the list is the Mosin Nagant in any of its many, WW2-used permutations. As deadly as and equal to the '03 and the K98 as a bolt action, it has seen use around the world continuously since the second world war. Plus, at least for now, they are readily available at reasonable prices, as is surplus ammo and they are a hoot to shoot. tom
Gotta say the Mauser K98K + MG42 though changing the barrel is a pain when its hot. Sorry, Sorry, I know their German! (and Check, Span, Belg + Chin).
1 shot to the head from an M-1 carbine and the person on the business end won't be moving. Confused by that statement of fact? Are you volunteering to be the subject of an experiment to prove otherwise?***LOL*** My comment was not that the M-1 carbine was the end all of firearms. It is a tool and has its purpose. It was effective for its role and should not be simply dismissed. It is much harder to hit someone in the head than in the chest, and it would take longer to aim for the head and you may get shot. Please tell me something that I don't know. Perhaps you should think about your audience before you preach the obvious.
