Which 3-star general toured Buchenwald on 4/21/1945 with Clare Booth Luce and British Delegation?

My grandfather, Herb Huberty, wrote a letter to his wife which he asked to be shared with the local newspaper. In the letter he mentions meeting Clare Booth Luce who was traveling with a 3-star general. Does anyone know who that would have been? I know she visited another concentration camp with General Vandenberg.

Also, any information about the British delegation is appreciated.

If it was immediately after the end of the war in Europe, my money would be on Lucien Truscott. He had an extra-marital affair with Clare Booth Luce over this period.

As the letter was written in April 1945 I doubt if it was Truscott as he'd be in Italy.
Well he was on the 24th April , the date of this film.

Thank you all for your responses.

This morning I received an email response from Kristen Holm, Buchenwald Museum, answering the question:

“On 21 April, members of the US Congress visited the liberated Buchenwald camp together with high-ranking U.S. Army officers. Among them were Congressmen Clare Boothe Luce, John C. Kunkel and Leonard W. Hall as well as the military officers Lt. General Hoyt S. Vandenburg, commanding 9th Air Force, and Majority General William E. Kepner, of 8th Air Force.
On the same day, a British parliamentary delegation also visited the camp. They included Sir Henry Morris-Jones, Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Wickham, Sir Graham White, Mrs Mavis Tate, Ness Edwards, Lord James Richard Stanhope, Lord Christopher Addison, Sir Archibald Southby, Sydney Silvermann and Tom Driberg”

Could Major General Grow been present, yet not listed among the “high-ranking U.S. Army officers”?

Absolutely, especially as General Grow's men liberated the dark place.

I think it'll be a case of the good folks at Buchenwald Museum have not identified him. And in their defence they may not have said photograph in their collection/archives. It's an Associated Press one.

If you want to make them aware of it so that they can check AJ they will readily find it on Alamy or the Getty websites (note, General Grow is not identified by Alamy or Getty; said identification is down to me and I'm certain it's him).

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

Good point. Is it okay if I share a copy of the AP photo?

    With the Buchenwald Museum? Absolutely!

I'll put the links up where it can be viewed online too - emblazoned with Alamy and Getty watermarks (they clearly got hold of the commercial rights at sometime; and as most, unfortunately, in this world, it's always about the money).

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

Even better Aj. Buchenwald already have the photo in their collection - without watermarks!

Click on the link to the webpage (link below) then use the arrows beneath the top photo to scroll through to photo number 6.

They can then double check the Major General Grow ID of mine. If they agree please ask them to credit/mention the forum here (WW2Talk) with the ID (note: not me individually as it's always a team effort here).

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

    P.S. here's the link:

You should be greeted with this having used the arrow to scroll to image #6.

Yes, it is General Grow. On 11 April, his 6th Armored Division Headquarters was at Bad Sulza, having moved there during the day from Bad Langensalza, where it had been since 9 April.
