I received an e mail today titled "Where have these pics been hiding?" On opening the mail I saw several pictures I was not familiar with, some I was. I will post them here individually and look forward to the forums comments.

David -the last two of the three smaller "V1" pics, with the Spitfire "tipping" a V1, are familiar from other sources - and rare, there were only a few "tipping" attacks....but the TOP one looks more like the planform of a STUKA! The nose tells me it's a Spitfire - but the parallel-edge, squared-off tailplanes are odd, can't see how a "peculiar" camera angle would make a Spit's tailplane look like that...but that's just me What I DO see however is a couple of small patches of black re-touching on the V1's silhouette in that top pic. Prepared for release to the newspapers??? The "Lucky Legs" Sherman pic would appear to be from the PTO?
Funnily enough I was just looking at this picture today. Its of the Liberty Ship Robert Rowan exploding after air-attack, and according to wiki its off Gela, Sicily.
Re post #11 found this footage on Youtube that seems to match, from about 1min 30secs I think, incredible courage of the flightdeck crew. No help to discover carrier or operation though. WW2 Airplane crash landings on US Aircraft Carrier - YouTube
Thanks Phaethon, that's the next one I was going to look for! Looks very much a Med operation judging by the scenery, building roofs and vehicles.
