I have just been researching a couple of people from the war, Generally where do you all search on the net for people or do use disks from software you purchased. I thought it might be good to draw up a collection of the most common sites and software. If you use software please indicate where you purchase it from to asist members further if they want to purchase. We will pin this topic once we get a few responses. Regards Lee

Regards Lee One way is to look in sites devoted to finding folks who served in WW II such as: Comrades and Colleagues http://www.comradesandcolleagues.com/ Service Pals http://www.servicepals.com/member/ Old Oppos http://www.oldoppos.co.uk/ Another good source, official unit sites found on the Web. Also, some published unit histories available in libraries are useful - such as "With Churchills to War" which has a fairly complete listing of men who served in the 48th Battalion, Royal Tank Regiment. A long way down the road: The Public Records Office has embarked on a listing of those who received medals - starting with WW I - there I found the medals that my father received. See: http://www.pro.gov.uk/online/docsonline.htm Anyone with access to Kew will find the personnel most helpful. For example, a friend has obtained for me much information about chaps who served in my Regiment - starting way back to August 1914.
I use servicepals, its quite a good site, pity they have to charge for it though, there are very sites these days that dont charge for the services they offer. But none the less still a very good site.

I have enrolled in the three - Old Oppos is of particlar interest as it carries an introduction by Ian Fraser, the only VC awarded to residents of my home town, Wallasey.
Some other possibilities.. British WW2 Veterans Reunion and tracing your Military Ancestors Page The Wartime Memories Projet War Links WW2 Groundcrew U-Boat Net The Australian Roll
Unless you are an immediate relative of the person whose service history you are trying to look up this will not be possible. You can of course get an immediate relative to do this for you if they agree as in most instances it is a request or family member anyway.
