Hi folks first post on here. The reason I asked this question is that my grandfather was captured at Arnhem. He was in the RAMC, family legend suggests he was in the building at the end of the bridge with Col Foster and his troops. Can any one tell me which pow camp they went to and the date of liberation. Thanks.

There is no man with that name listed in Niall Cherry's 'Red Berets and Red Crosses' which is about the medical personnel at Arnhem. It includes a nominal roll of RAMC men at Arnhem compiled by the RAMC museum in Aldershot. Perhaps it is worth contacting them?

Thanks Philip - good you found him.

There will be a returned POW statement for him at The National Archives as well. This will give some info on when and where captured; they are often quite specific.

No, these are statements made upon repatriation to the UK. They give unit, place and sometimes details of capture. They were more concerned with poor treatment given out to POWs as evidence for possible war crimes trials. They are in class WO344. When I am Kew next week I will pull out an Arnhem one and post it here.

No! They are the Liberated POW Interrogation Questionnaires- WO344 which all returning POW's had to fill out. You can view them at the National Archive at Kew.

File WO208 mainly deals with successful escape and evasion attempts.

Thanks to every one who posted it has helped in putting the pieces together. My dad very rarely talks about my grandda's war experiences so I had to find out my self.

Hi folks update on my granda have got information from another source he was attached to B Coy 7th KOSB, he finally ended up at Stalag XIB at Falingbostal and his POW no was 89896. From what I am reading at the minute the majority of Arnhem soldiers ended up there.
