The Royal Hampshire Regiment wore a red rose on Minden Day the Light Infantry (the Old KOYLI ) Wore the white rose of Yorkshire in remembrance of Minden. I witnessed several officers dip the red rose in port and eat the petals.
I wear a metal and ennamel poppy on my firms ID card lanyard all year, and by a poppy to wear on my outside coat and one for my jacket worn at work.
Wills They have some odd traditions in the Hampshire Regt, The Duke Of Wellingtons Regt always wore white roses behind the badge on Minden Day. One is led to beleive that an officer gave the wrong command and the infantry took on the unbroken cavalry and beat them
Royal Hampshire regiment traditions, yes I had to learn them. Used to remind them that their regimental march was a Scottish tune - which was known by the first three bars as 'knife, fork spoon. - 1st Bn (Highland Piper) 'The Hampshire'. 2nd Bn march - I'll gang nae mair to yon toun!' Officers wore a different cap badge and stable belt to the other ranks. Royal Hampshire Light Infantry: Marches of the army -- No 36 on the list 'The Hampshire' or 'Knife, fork, spoon! That tshirt/rugbyshirt looked pretty good, right up until you see the 'samurai' logo on it. Just something not right about that. Doubt if many families of FEPOWs will be buying that one then.
RBL Poppy Appeal for the north of England was opened by the Lord Lieutenant in Manchester on 19 Oct 12. If the Queen's representative says it's OK to wear a poppy, that's fine by me! Roxy
The new poppies I bought last year will get some more airings on the 11th & the 18th of November this year. (See my earlier postings, including #45) The first parade is the main British Legion one, the second is that of AJEX. All being well, will post a few pics of both events after those dates. Ron
