Believe it or not, it's from Waterloo. When some General type chappy's sitting on his horse, beside Wellington, as they watch the battle rage. (Was it Kenneth Moore? Or was he the one in the Carry On films?)

Anyway, they're sitting there when matey, with just a hint of mild surprise says; " Good lord! I do believe I've just lost my leg. "

Then, after a brief pause, slumps over his horse. Classic!

    That would be Lord Uxbridge.

    The Eagle has Landed

Colonel Kurt Steiner: He reminds me of something that I occasionally pick up on my shoe in the gutter! Very unpleasant, on a hot day. And if you have the dubious honor of commanding the senseless slaughter, then I'd advise you to keep him downwind at all times! That is, of course, if you can tell the difference anymore.

    A Bridge Too Far

SS Panzer Officer: My general says there is no point in continuing this fighting! He wishes to discuss terms of a surrender!

Major Harry Carlyle: Shall I answer him, sir?

Lt. Col. John Frost: Tell him to go to hell.

Major Harry Carlyle: We haven't the proper facilities to take you all prisoner! Sorry!

    SS Panzer Officer: [confused] What?

Major Harry Carlyle: We'd like to, but we can't accept your surrender! <Pause> Was there anything else?

Why does that scene seem very Monty Pythonesque?

Bit like the French knights in the castle .

    Just for you GH :D

Lt. Col. John Frost: You know, Harry; I always wanted to ask you but didn't because I knew you so very much wanted me to; but why do you always carry that umbrella?

Major Harry Carlyle: Bad memory. Never could remember the password. Knew no Jerry would carry one. Had to prove I was an Englishman, you see.

“You still think it's beautiful to die for your country. The first bombardment taught us better. When it comes to dying for country, it's better not to die at all.”

Isoroku Yamamoto is credited with saying, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, in Tora, Tora, Tora "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

It is debatable whether Yamamoto ever really said this however it was in the movie.

Another one of my favourite war films

Kelly: Well Oddball, what do you think?

Oddball: It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

Big Joe: Hey look, you just keep them Tigers busy and we'll take care of the rest.

Oddball: The only way I got to keep them Tigers busy is to LET THEM SHOOT HOLES IN ME!

Crapgame: Hey, Oddball, this is your hour of glory. And you're chickening out!

Oddball: To a New Yorker like you, a hero is some type of weird sandwich, not some nut who takes on three Tigers.

Kelly: Nobody's asking you to be a hero.

Oddball: No? Then YOU sit up in that turret baby.

Kelly: No, because you're gonna be up there, baby, and I'll be right outside showing you which way to go.

    Oddball: Yeah?

    Kelly: Yeah.

Oddball: Crazy... I mean like, so many positive waves... maybe we can't lose, you're on!

 Donald Sutherland is the bestest Hippy Sherman Commander :D
