I don't know a whole lot about Starforce, but I know it's a form of copy protection that most people refer to as "draconian." I guess it installs some hidden drivers without the end user's concent or even knowledge, and there's some movement to boycott it. I found this page in a Google search. It seems pretty informative.
Well dispite the real concern of software companies about their products being pirated, they shouldn't be alowed to install any non-game specific files on a computer and certainly not overwrite device drivers without either informing the owner of that computer or asking their permission. They'll soon find out that people would rather not bother with their software than have them do unknown things with their computers.... in other words they loose more custom than they would have with putting up with some illegal piracy, which in all honesty is going to happen anyway. Purely my opinion you understand.
Thanks RNG gave me a link to wikipedia. I called my friend and despite his son's objections he promptly removed the game and cut the malware out of his system.
