What's the saddest WW2 movie you guys have seen? True, all war movies are sad but what's one that you found especially depressing? The most depressing three WW2 movies I've seen are "Swing Kids", "Pearl Harbor" (got the movie edited) and "Downfall" (I got that edited as well).
dont know about the downfall, it didnt seem to depressing to me... maybe its just me... the pianist was a very moving one though... i really liked that movie a lot...

The Pianist, for many reasons was the first that came in to my head. There are sad and depressing films and to me this fits the criteria. Schindlers List was sad and is a great movie. The Camp scenes in the Band of Brothers series had more effect on me than in any other movie for some reason, although nothing I feel can surpass the graphic footage of the camps in "The World at War" and the narration of Sir Lawrence Olivier.
A few comes to mind... The Pianist & Schindler's List as mentioned before. The Grey Zone, which tells about the "Sonderkommando Auschwitz" and the extermination of the jews. Also, Sophie Scholl, which is about the non violent resistance group in germany "The White Rose".
Elim Klimov's 'Come & See'. The missus & I just sat in stunned silence for half an hour after the credits finished. Though 'harrowing' might be a better word than sad.
I agree that my ww2 movie saddest moment was "the pianist". But........... i know its not WW2 but that bit in black hawk down when they are back at base and he's talking to his dead mate. I think its the music. RADIO.BLOG.CLUB Donnie
I have to agree with you guys on Schindler's List and the Pianist. I watched both of them edited. I couldn't even finish the edited version of Schindler's List since it was so depressing and realistic. One part that bothered me was when there was a crazy German soldier yelling and shooting at a mass of burning bodies of the Jews from the Polish ghetto. The Pianist is also a very sad film. Its amazing, in the movie, how evil people can get and it staggers the imagination on how the Germans could do such horrible things to people. Like when it showed them dumping that old handicapped Jewish man off the balcony into the street in the Warsaw Ghetto. I've researched about the movie, "Voyage of the Damned" and am interested in getting it. My only concern is if there's anything bad or inappropriate in it. Is there?

I would allow my 10 year old daughter to watch it with no reservations and I am a very conservative Christian. Does that help you any?
I watched Saving Private Ryan for the first, then went to France to the big american cemetary........ My and my wife just wept...........thats when a film really hits home.. I could picture Ryans face as he collapsed down by the grave of the captain when he says have I been a good man!! Schindlers list is next on my favs
