Sad news, I liked him. As regards Thunderheart, we lost both he and Val Kilmer this year.

Wydtya is not widely advertised as it was years ago when we had some great series which featured WW2. Shame really.

 

"Theirs Is The Glory" is the one where the chap leaves frying his eggs to casually PIAT a Panther tank, isn't it? Goes back to frying his eggs, IIRC.

One thing that intrigues me about that era is whether people really were psychologically tougher in those days. There's the modern argument that people were just as psychologically scarred by WW2 as they are in modern wars, but the whole thing was societally repressed. What makes me doubt this is when you look at the accident statistics in the post-war decades - literally tens of thousands of people being killed in motorcycle accidents every year. Ferrari killing off their own drivers like barnyard rats. The RAF casually shrugging every time a Meteor went in. There does seem to have been an attitude of death or serious injury just being one of those things.
