Just watched a recording of When the War was Won on Yesterday and saw Ron Goldstein followed by Sapper (Brian Guy) recounting their memories of being demobbed.

I've tapped it.....Not allowed to watch it yet as Andrea is in charge of the TV when she's home. A small price to pay to leave me alone with my laptop

We receive the U.S. Military Channel here in Canada. Not surprisingly, it is very much focused on American subjects and the Top 10 of Just About Anything is dominated by U.S. manufacturers. There are some great U.K. documentaries shown periodically which make it worthwhile.

The channel has been running it's An Officer and Movie series recently. It purports to be the "greatest war movies of all time" but mostly it's B grade schlock with the occasional gem:

    The Big Red One
    Kelly's Heroes
    633 Squadron
    Bridge at Remagen
    PT 109
    Windtalkers
    Play Dirty
    Heartbreak Ridge
    Heaven and Earth
    The Great Santini
    Hart's War

Have been given a heads up about this by two different people so I will be recording it:

    Bomber Boys Sunday 5 Feb at 9pm on BBC1 (1.5 hours) :D

Brothers Colin and Ewan McGregor follow up their documentary The Battle of Britain with a film exploring Bomber Command, a rarely-told story from the Second World War.

The film focuses primarily on the men who fought and died in the skies above occupied Europe, with numerous examples of individual heroism and extraordinary collective spirit, and Colin learns to fly the key aircraft of the campaign: the Lancaster bomber. But this is also the story of a controversy that has lasted almost 70 years.

The programme covers six years of wartime operations, and traces the obstacles and challenges that were overcome as the RAF developed and deployed the awesome fighting force that was Bomber Command.

First programme was on logistics and was excellent. Not too heavy but some interesting stuff. The sort of things that make you think how did they ever manage. Wellingtons army in Portugal needed to slaughter 300 cattle a day just to provide meat, they carried 80,000 bricks to build the bread ovens (which had to be rebuilt at every stop). Worth sky +ing.
