I have a copy of a 1948 memo addressed to the Burgomaster of Delfzijl in Holland. It mentions that HQ DDGR+E Western Europe have amended the records of certain RAF aircrew buried in Holland. The memo is signed by Capt. G? F Douglas OC 5Sec 90GCU. Although I cant be certain it appears that GCU is Graves Concentration Unit. Can anyone confirm this or tell me where I might find this information? Also can anyone tell me what DDGR+E Western Europe was?
Have a look at what the late Rob Philips wrote here (post 2): http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/showthread.php?4777-55-Graves-Concentration-Unit DDGR+E Western Europe appears to be Directorate of Graves Registration and Enquiries. Google kicks up quite a bit. Regards, Dave
Can't find a reference to 90 GCU in the WO171 series, but then again, it's a big series - did the RAF have their own units for this purpose perhaps and therefore may be filed under 'AIR' or similar?
