Here's a photograph of him. Armando Consolé was a pre-Great War Daily Mirror photographer who lost a leg in 1918.

The London Gazette has him relinquishing his commission in 1918 as a result of his wounds and being granted the honorary rank of 2nd Lieutenant so it would seem that at some point he returned during the inter-war years and was promoted Captain. The IWM has a Console collection so perhaps September 1939 was when the pre-war images were archived.
